Memories

Why are my memories such an important thing to me? Having a certain defect in my brain regarding storing and retrieving short term memories is a reason. Having a small probability on turning back time or even if it is possible to go back,  having no possibilities that what happened on that time will happen again even if you travelled back is another. Are your memories that important too?
